My favorite fried chicken spot in Sac! You know the fried chicken is legit when the lady in front refers to you as "hon".  The chicken is cripsy and juicy, the cornbread is one of the best I've had, and their chili is also super yummy.  My only complaint is I have to drive 40 min round trip every time I want fried chicken. Other people commute for work, I commute for fried chicken. Tori, if you see this review, please consider opening a place downtown. This place has much better flavors than South (the popular fried chicken place downtown) in my opinion and will do so so well downtown.

Anyways, if you are reading this review, go try this place. You wont regret it.

As a Nitetrain Driver, I am always interested in dining recommendations or to simply stumble onto a hidden treasure, a hot spot with food so delicious that I just cannot help but give a great big shout out!!

Tori's Place is such a location! A small building with a big reputation for some of the best Soul Food in Cali!! I peddled my bicycle from Don Zimmerman's mechanic shop to this restaurant, per his recommendation. Mr Don, You nailed it brother!! Wow!! The ribs and collard greens will be talked about for many weeks... most likely for years.

I had a wonderful waiter named Tairahn. He was the best. His ambition and positive outlook in life just made everything fall right into place! From the kitchen to the parking lot, I was blessed with smiles, kindness and great customer service!! I will not only share this hidden treasure with my bus driving friends... but, I will most definitely be back for some more Soul Food the next time I pass through Sacramento!!!

    A hidden gem in Sacramento.
Now I consider myself a real southerner being raised in Virginia and North Carolina back on the good ol east coast so I was raised with this kind of food all of my life. Stopped by on a stormy Sunday afternoon craving some kind of warm feel good food and discovered they sell gumbo!!! This place is a hole in the wall which only excited me more when I approached knowing full well that these are the kinds of places that I used to stop by when I was a kid growing up and was never disappointed by doing so.
The Gumbo was delicious and thank god it had some heat to it so I didn't actually have to add which is quite common with california cuisine just as is adding seasonings. It has Sausage, Chicken, Shrimp and the proper gumbo yummyness (yes that's a word, even if I did just make it up). Now the real surprise was the corn bread, I've never been a big fan of the dried up cake but hey they did something completely different here, they combined a pancake with corn bread which equals heavenly addictive goodness...I ordered extra :)
Looking forward to coming back to try out the fried chicken as well as having polite conversation with Tori and her sister, see you soon ladies.

I make that 30-40 minute drive to Tori's when I'm craving some gumbo and their infamous cornbread pancake because it's worth it. I'm not a big fan of cornbread but their take on it is amazing, it is crispy, moist and delectable. Dip it in your gumbo which sometimes they make with a little kick to it and I enjoy spicy foods. I've yet had a dry chicken from them, it has always been crispy and juicy, little greasy but you don't eat some soul food thinking about calories. Or do you? As far as their sides I would definitely recommend their collard greens.

Mac n cheese is probably the only thing I don't enjoy here, pass on that and get a different side. The bbq riblets unfortunately weren't my favorite either. When you come here, it's a hole in a wall type of joint but you'll understand why there is always somebody waiting for food here. Also I wouldn't eat here because space is limited on the left side and isn't always clean but take it to-go and go eat in your car, the park or at home.

IT SHOULD BE A CRIME TO MAKE FOOD THIS DELICIOUS!

After swiping through YELP, we were fortunate enough to match with this hidden gem.
We chose to posse up with Siri to Tori's Place.

We approached the window. Behind the window stood a beautiful QUEEN welcoming us to Tori's Place. I fondly call her Miss V.

Miss V greeted us with warmth, appreciation, and a smile worth a million dollars.

Just when I think she couldn't get any more phenomenal... she multi tasked, greeting loyal customers and making sure they had what they needed, while handing previous customers brown bags of fresh out the kitchen goodness.

We were given samples of gumbo. Which my partner devoured. "Do you know how to fight? The Gumbo has a kick to it!" Said Miss V.
A flavorful stock accompanied pieces of celery, sausage and chunks of chicken.

The menu is comprehensive and stress free, or as Miss V said, "Order a meat and pick a side".
We excitedly ordered catfish and prawns + macaroni & cheese, my partner ordered fried chicken & macaroni & cheese. As we payed for our meal, fans couldn't stop professing their love for the Smothered Pork Chops and Gumbo.

We sat in a well shaded, intimate dining area conveniently located on the side of Tori's.
We received our goodness and IT WAS GOOD!
SO GOOD we didn't hold a conversation.
We communicated with mmmm's, wow's, and wide eyes.
The Catfish (and Prawns) had a clean, fresh, perfectly flavored, crispy taste. The seasoning was not overpowering or salty.

The Fried Chicken (thigh, drumstick, and a hearty sized wing) was also seasoned to perfection, crispy, and the meat was juicy.

The mac & cheese was sprinkled with herbs dressed in the perfect cheesyness. My first time having mac like this, and I loved it!

As we enjoyed and savored every bite, the handsome and classy, Kevin, (Miss Victoria's right hand), kindly checked in with us to make sure we were doing well. We tried the peach cobbler INSTANT EUPHORIA! My mouth watered after every decadent bite.

Miss V and Kevin thanked us for coming, but we were truly the thankful ones.

If you are craving affordable authentic soul food and a PICK UP/TO GO alternative show your support and visit TORI'S PLACE.
